Knowledge can best be given where there is eagerness to learn, so this is the period when the seed of everything can be sown, the child's mind being like a fertile field, ready to receive what will germinate into knowledge"

ADMISSION

Children should be between 2 years 9 months and 3 years 9 months at the time of admission to be considered for acceptance. Siblings of children currently or previously enrolled at King's Wood will be given preference.

While the optimal time for admission is September, children may be admitted at any time during the school year when openings exist.

The application procedure is as follows:

bulletReceipt of application and fee places children on list of applicants for age-appropriate admission.
bulletFamily is invited to Open House in November and March.
bulletTeachers meet individually with applicants in early March.
bulletChild is accepted or wait-listed by mid-March. Parents are informed by snail-mail.
bulletChild is considered enrolled upon receipt of non-refundable $500 place-holding fee.

King's Wood welcomes diversity in its student body and staff and therefore does not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, religion, cultural heritage, political beliefs, marital status, disability, sexual preference or national origin.

Families are strongly encouraged to enroll their children for the full three year Montessori cycle, thus completing their kindergarten year here, in either a half day or full day class.

Class Assignment

Assignment to all classes is based upon class profile, and is at the discretion of the head teachers and the school administrator. The objective is to optimize the balance in each class of male/female, older/younger children whenever possible.

In keeping with the Montessori philosophy, children will remain in the same class, with the same teacher, throughout their time at King's Wood. Children enrolled in the afternoon class for their third/final year may be switched to the morning class to enable them to join the Extended Day Class. The decision to move the child will be based upon the existing class profiles, and will be at the discretion the the head teachers and the school administrator.

Extended Day

Children currently enrolled in one of the morning classes who have reached the age of 4 years 9 months may be eligible for the Extended Day Class. They would have lunch in the downstairs classroom and remain there through 3:00PM.

Requests for admission to the Extended Day Class must be made in writing to the school administrator by March 1st of the year they are seeking admission. The head teachers and school administrator will decide on class rosters, and will notify parents of their decisions before the end of March.
